Shana- You are correct, it is very helpful if the sender of seeds tells you the name, gives a little planting info, full sun, med. sun or shade, and comments. Grows how high and wide? Also, any little notes i.e. " I love to grow these in pots to line my front entrance steps."

Good luck on your new flower beds! I used to own a Florist, Nursery and Landscape Co. in Tampa, FL This new technology is fun! My sister & I each have Blackberry Curves. We were talking one day and she had just returned from the plant store. I know her environment so as she was walking in the yard, she described her purchases and I was able to advise her where to plant what in her design. Also, when I needed some computer help, I did a tradeout with a Brother. I went to his house in Plano for the weekend (90 miles North). He wanted some silk flower arrangements. We were able to take pictures of the vases, fabrics etc., then head for the craft store. What fun! We were both very happy to help each other.

Dazzy- WOW! The photo is great! (Of course, all my husband cares about at the moment is the cancelling of the World Series). He's 86, and slowing down physically, but not mentally.

Thank you for starting this group. It is the first time I've done this, but am thoroughly enjoying it.

I've never made applesauce or apple butter. How I wish I hade some good apple butter for my toast this morning! My Sister lives in Salt Lake, UT and makes appplesauce, I Love Pumpkin butter, too. I make grape jelly. My Mother loved to come here, as she used to do with her Grandmother in Austin, and pick the wild fenceline grapes called Mustang. They are not table grapes, but with enough sugar make incredible grape juice and jelly. Truly a labor of love,

I'm going to try my hand at pepper jelly very soon.

Quick & easy recipe for an appetizer: Put a package of cream cheese (8 oz.) on a plate. Cover with 4-6 oz. of pepper jelly (your choice, red or green) on top.. Circle with Ritz crackers Put 2 butter knives or party spreaders on the sides. Enjoy!

My Mother was also the pickle maker. I love crunchy kosher deli (lots of garlic) and Bread 'n Butter Sweet pickles. I haven't tried to make any yet. I admit to buying the Deli pickles, in large quantity, when I find good ones.

Yes! I will get the seed exchange started on Discussions.

It is truly a pleasure sharing with all of you!

Thanks for the Welcome! This is fun. lol For the seed exchange, the way you discribed it is exactly right. You just put your address, you don't have to put your whole name if you don't want to, (like B. Hunt.) I use to do one from a plant magazine I subsribed to. I got a lot of neat stuff that you might not find here in TX. Also some great new friends that became pin pals. Some would put the name of the seed and any special instructions. Some would write little notes. I even received some from men gardeners. I am trying to get moved onto some new property, so trying to design new flower beds. I love anything red!
Thanks,
Shana

Hi Lydia, and good morning, about the snow we are getting a wet heavy snow this am we have about 4 inches on the ground and it is still falling, but my chinny is up supposed to be 62 by friday for Halloween. I got all my preserving done for the year, altho I may do 1 more bushel of apples into sauce and butter. I love preserving everything I can preserve. I even made my grandma's watermellon rind pickles this yr, I just hope they taste something like grandma's. I think keeping the seed exchange here is a good idea and sounds like fun. Would you beable to help with this? thank you for all you do.

Dazzy- Thanks for your responses! I haven't had time yet but I'll play with the photos later. Just heard on the National news about the snow storm "up there".

I've participated in several seed exchanges. Since nobody has "Started a Discussion", maybe we should use that for the seed exchange. Usually people will say "I have whatever, whatever, whatever seeds available. I am looking for whatever, whatever, whatever seeds to exchange. If you would like seeds, but have nothing to exchange, please send a SASE to:

When the 2 envelopes arrive, the seed owner places seed in the envelope (equivalent to store packet) and mails it back. If there is a match between seed exchangers, they each just mail each other the seeds. A postage stamp and envelope are cheaper than a trip to the store and buying retail. Even better, we might be able to preserve some heirloom flowers and vegetables.

What do you think? If not utilizing Discussions, we could start another "group" on "The Bonnie Hunts Show" just for the Seed Exchange. Let me know what you think. I think it would be more manageable & relevant to our group to keep it here. However, the decision is yours.
